LSU players measured for rings BEFORE the championship game
Joe Burrow passed for 463 yards in earning Offensive Player of the Game for LSU’s victory over Clemson in Monday night’s College Football Playoff. All that remained was the awarding of a championship ring. Burrow was asked by a reporter if he knew his ring size. “Ten and a half.” He smiled and added, “We already got fitted for ‘em.”
Between the Lines: Granted, many more games are lost from lack of confidence than from overconfidence. Still, this seems extreme. What’s the hurry to measure ring fingers? How embarrassing if LSU, a 6-point favorite, had lost the game.
The rest of the story: As the LSU players cavorted on the Superdome field following the game, they encountered former Tiger Odell Beckham Jr. Now a Cleveland Browns receiver, OBJ handed out bundles of what appeared to be cash. LSU’s athletics department insisted the bills were fake and therefore not a violation of NCAA rules that forbid players from accepting money prior to turning pro. But Burrow said he and his teammates received real money, although some fake bills were found on the field. Beckham did not stop there. He proceeded to the LSU locker room, where he was seen slapping a uniformed policeman on his buttocks – an action that prompted an arrest warrant for battery.
Dear Odell: Do you ever feel like NOT being a distraction?
